In order for a WXT520 to work with NexSens’ WeatherVIC software, it needs to communicate in RS-232 ASCII mode.

1)      Connect the WXT520 to a PC COM port.

2)      Open HyperTerminal set to 1200 baud, even parity, 7 data bit, 1 stop bit.

3)      Note that all text entered on the HyperTerminal is not displayed. Care must be exercised to enter the command correctly.  Try entering the commands a few times if the result is not as expected.  Upper and lower case matter.

4)      Type the following command in the terminal to confirm that the WXT520 is in SDI-12 mode:

0XXU!

The WXT520 responds with:

0XXU,A=………

5)      Now type the following command in the terminal:

0XXU,M=A,C=2,B=19200,D=8,P=N,S=1!

The WXT520 responds with:

0XXU,A=………

6)      Close the HyperTerminal.

7)      Reopen the HyperTerminal set to 19200 baud, no parity, 8 data bit, 1 stop bit.

8)      Cycle power on the WXT520.

9)      The WXT520 should output the readings.
