Imbros is a leading supplier of scientific instruments based in Cambridge, Tasmania, Australia.
Director, Martin Hills, recalls Imbros’s beginnings—“My father [Gavin Hills] was a lecturer at the University of Tasmania and one of his ongoing problems back in those days was trying to buy new equipment.”
Frustrated by delays in communication and feeling behind on the latest developments, Gavin Hills founded Imbros to provide a go-to source for scientific equipment, servicing, and advice in Oceania.
After over 50 years in business, Imbros has grown to a company of 14 people and is one of Australia’s largest and most trusted suppliers of marine and laboratory instruments. Its work is divided into marine and laboratory sectors, overseen by Martin and his brother, respectively.
Imbros’ small team of dedicated experts, combined with established relationships with market leaders–including NexSens–enables them to provide recommendations grounded in experience, and serve customers without the long delays that first prompted Gavin Hills to found the business.
Imbros supports a plethora of industries, including research, education, marine science, defense, healthcare, aquaculture, agriculture, and food and beverage production.
Reflecting on the company’s history, Hills notes, “Science has come a long way in 50 years, and we are continuously pleased with helping our customers to achieve better science management using latest technologies.”
From its NexSens stock list, buoys are proving a popular choice for coastal marine deployments, and Hills is optimistic there will be more inland applications in the future.
For Hills, the decision to distribute NexSens products is straightforward—“You offer high-quality equipment, and you’ve got brilliant support service,” he says.
