GeOceanTech is a consultancy service and equipment distributor based in Taipei, Taiwan, whose solutions aim to enable greater and more efficient scientific study of the natural world.

Chi Ma, Sales and Engineer at GeOceanTech explains, “The main purpose of establishing the company was to support research institutions in executing their research projects.”

The founding team felt this support was required in two key areas. First, they observed that scientists often didn’t have the time and practical expertise for field deployments and maintenance. Second, projects regularly encountered incompatibilities with foreign instruments, requiring specialist support for integration and adaptation.

Ma explains, “Initially, research institutions approached us with specialized needs that standard instrument manufacturers could not meet, either due to technical limitations or high costs. We assisted by developing customized marine research equipment, such as instrument mounting frames and improved seawater filtration systems, as well as acting as a distributor for international marine instruments.”

GeOceanTech’s team–many with backgrounds in marine science and research–has also added maintenance services and offshore sampling support to its services.

The collaboration with NexSens began when leaders of a government-led observation project recommended NexSens buoys. Today, GeOceanTech has supported the deployment and maintenance of numerous NexSens systems.

“In Taiwan, NexSens buoys are primarily used in coastal buoy applications, including meteorological and oceanographic monitoring, as well as marine chemistry observations,” Ma states.

“One of our key buoy-related projects involved supporting the National Academy of Marine Research in deploying and maintaining metocean buoys,” he highlights. This project, which has been running for four years, provides real-time data on key ocean characteristics to recreational users.

In the future, the GeOceanTech team is excited to see how AI-based disaster prevention systems could utilize data from coastal buoys, and the prospect of expanding NexSens land-based technologies in Taiwan.

Ma notes, “We provide environmental monitoring systems for land-based applications and aquaculture ponds. Since NexSens Technology offers many ready-made solutions, we hope to further expand its applications in these areas.”
