When the two ends of a cable are separated by a great distance, it may be necessary to test the cables connectivity.
1. Find a wire that is known to have connectivity. This can be another wire in the same cable or a separate wire that is the same distance.
2. Connect one end of the wire which is being tested to one end of the known good wire.
3. On the other end of the cable use a multimeter, set to the lowest resistance setting, to measure the resistance in Ohms between the two wires.
4. This number will be close to zero if the wire is connected.
Note: The longer the cable, the higher the resistance will be. The resistance should remain below ≈10 Ohm for most cable lengths.
5. If the number is very high or the multimeter indicates infinite resistance, the wire has a disconnect.
