Building a Lake Temperature Profiling SystemThe NexSens ThermistorChain is a fully submersible temperature profiling system based on high accuracy digital temperature sensors and reliable data logging. The 10-Node system includes 1m cable spacing for deployments down to 10 meters. The modular design of the T-Node temperature sensing architecture allows nodes and connecting cable assemblies to be quickly modified by the user. Eight D-cell alkaline batteries power the system for months or an optional solar pack is available for continuous, long-term operation.
Each T-Node sensor is factory calibrated to +/-0.1 C for high-precision measurements. Temperature data is transmitted on a 1-wire temp string bus. In addition to the 1-wire bus, the T-Node offers pass-through signals for SDI-12 and RS-485, allowing the user to connect Nodes and other environmental measurement sensors along the string. For integration with existing data collection platforms, the SDL500 data logger can be configured as an SDI-12 or Modbus slave device, turning the complete system into a single 'sensor'.
The TC500 ThermistorChain system consists of a NexSens SDL500 Submersible Data Logger, (10) T-Node water temperature sensors, and (10) 1m underwater connectorized cable assemblies. The TC500C real-time cellular telemetry system also incorporates a built-in modem and high gain antenna. The real-time system can be configured for any of the major cellular networks, including Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint Nextel. NexSens iChart Software is a Windows-based program for interfacing both locally (direct-connect) and remotely (through telemetry) to a ThermistorChain system or network of systems.
