Every couple years (2-3) an SP6 battery should be replaced in order to ensure reliable power delivery.

  1. Disconnect the UW-6 pigtail cable from the logger
  2. Remove the SP6 from its mounting location and place on a flat work surface
    1. Typically the easiest means of removing the SP6 is to remove both 1/4-20 x 1-1/2″ socket head cap screws from the angle adjustment bracket using a 3/16″ hex driver
  3. Remove the (4) 1/4-20 x 3″ socket head cap screws on the back of the battery box using a 3/16″ hex driver
  4. While holding the panel and box together flip the assembly over so the panel is facing up
  5. Lift the panel off the box and place to the side
  6. Remove the desiccant
  7. Stand the battery box up and remove the battery
  8. Disconnect the red and black fastons from the old battery
  9. Connect the red and black fastons to the new battery
  10. Gently insert the battery back into the housing
  11. Push the wires above the battery
  12. Re-install the desiccant
    1. Note that this is a good time to replace the desiccant (Should be done every couple years)
  13. Inspect the EPDM 160 O-Ring to ensure it is seated well in the O-Ring groove
    1. Ensure it is not cut, out of alignment, or degrading. If there is any damage, replace the O-Ring
  14. Place the panel back on top of the battery box and ensure it seats into the groove
  15. While holding the panel and box together flip the assembly over so the panel is facing down
  16. Reinstall the (4) 1/4-20 x 3″ socket head cap screws on the back of the battery box using a 3/16″ hex driver
  17. Re-mount the SP6
  18. Re-connect the UW-6 to the logger
