X2 Selective Data Upload

The X2 allows users to log data to its internal memory at a certain log interval and transmit it at a different interval. This feature is useful for reducing the systems data usage and telemetry on-time. Users can then periodically access and download the data directly from the unit when on site.

Options include the ability to completely disable a certain parameter or the ability to upload that reading every x number of samples. For example, if the sensor is configured to log every 60 minutes, but the user only wants to upload the data 4 times a day, they can opt to “Upload 1 of every 6 data points”. This will result in data being logged internally every hour, but only the 12AM, 6AM, 12PM, and 6PM data being transmitted (Over an 80% reduction in transmitted data).

This feature is particularly useful in Iridium data systems where data transmission is very expensive and frequently only periodic data is needed in real-time to ensure the system is still operational.

Set Selective Upload on WQData LIVE

  1. On the top right of your WQData Live project page, travel to the Admin | Settings tab.

Admin | Settings tab

  1. Scroll down and click on Advanced Device Remote Configuration.
  1. From the drop-down menu, select the site containing the iridium data logger and click on the logger.
    1. Enter key ‘nexsens’ to access the Advanced Device Remote Configuration settings.

Advanced device remote configuration.

  1. Scroll down to Selective Upload and open the drop-down menu for the sensor and parameters requiring selective upload.

The following image shows the selective upload for the X2 Meta Parameters.

  1. Enter the value for the parameter that will upload every ‘x’ data points. (For iridium, usually all other diagnostic parameters besides primary power and internal humidity will be disabled.)
    1. In the example shown below, the X2 is set for a 15 minute log interval and a 6 hour transmit interval. The primary power parameter has been adjusted to upload on the 24th/final data point of the 6 hour window.
      • Only one transmission will occur and only one data point will upload at the end of that 6 hour window.
      • All other 23 data points will be logged on the X2 memory for direct download.

New value entered in for primary power. This value will be accepted at the next transmission interval.

Current value for primary power is now 24. Only the 24th/final data point within that 6 hour window will upload to WQData LIVE.

  1. Once all parameters have been adjusted as desired, hit SAVE at the bottom of the Advanced Device Remote Configuration menu.
