NexSens selected for Organics Detection System by ORSANCO
Dayton, OH, February 8, 2010 - NexSens Technology has been selected to upgrade ORSANCO's Organics Detection System (ODS) with a new communication network and data management system. Existing ODS sites using 56k telephone modems will be replaced with NexSens' high speed Ethernet and cellular telemetry based iSIC (Intelligent Sensor Interface & Control) data loggers at 13 locations along the Ohio River plus the ORSANCO headquarters.
The new system requires an automated detection notification mechanism, data management architecture, a water quality data website, and automated data screening. NexSens iChart Software allows for alarm notification via SMS text message, voice message, email, or data logger alarm. The software also automates many of the tasks associated with acquiring, processing, analyzing, and publishing data. iChart can automatically post data to WQ Data web-based datacenter. WQ Data features multilevel password protection, a public portal, near real-time data presentation, narrative postings, active data sourcing, and a project information sharing forum.
The Organics Detection System was established in 1978 to detect the presence of volatile organic compounds in the Ohio River valley basin. Since then, the system has detected volatile contaminants from numerous unreported spills and releases. These detections are reported by station operators to downstream utilities, state, and federal agencies. The ODS has been maintained and upgraded for the protection of vulnerable drinking water supplies.
The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) is an interstate water pollution control organization that implements water quality monitoring and pollution improvement programs in the Ohio River and its tributaries. The Commission consists of the following member states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
