While trying to diagnose a connection problem, battery voltage is often the first area to check. When communication cannot be established, measuring the voltage using a multimeter is the best solution.
Measuring the voltage on a receptacle port
- Unplug any attached cables from the receptacle port.
- Set the voltmeter to read DC voltage in the range of typically 20V.
- Touch the red lead to pin 4 and the black lead to pin 7 according to the below diagram.
Measuring the voltage on a plug port
- Unplug any attached cables from the plug port.
- Set the voltmeter to read DC voltage in the range of typically 20V.
- Touch the red lead to pin 5 and the black lead to pin 2 according to the below diagram.
